About FilmLUX

FilmLUX is a set of carefully created film like presets for Lightroom. Created after spending a lot of time scanning and examining real film photos shot over the past 15 years, these new Lightroom presets were designed to look similar to scanned film. These presets are artistic impressions of the various film stocks rather than exact emulations. This set also contains an extensive collection of Grain presets presets to mimic the grain found in various types of film.

What’s in the FilmLUX Lightroom Presets Collection

The FilmLUX presets come in three main groups. The first is a set of “set-up” presets, designed to set your images to the correct profile based on your camera, and also to set some common settings such as turning on chromatic aberration reduction and automatic lens correction. This is an optional step that helps speed up your workflow by setting some common settings for you. There are versions for various camera manufacturers, so just pick the one that most suits the camera that you shot with.

The second is the main FilmLUX presets themselves. There are 8 Presets for designed to look like Slide Film, 8 Black and White “Negative” looks and 8 Colour “Negative” presets.

The third group is a special set of grain presets designed especially for FilmLUX. The set includes an extensive set of grain settings, which are created after various different types of film. There are 6 presets for both slide and negative grains, and each set has two different versions, one for 35mm and one for 120mm (medium format). There is also an additional set of 6 “Expired” grains to mimic the look of shooting with expired film.

Also included in this package is an additional optional set of colour profile presets for Fuji X-Trans users. These are alternative versions of the setup presets for Fuji users and are designed to allow you to quickly select the colour profiles that match the Fuji film simulation settings (Provia, Velvia etc). Please note that these just set the corresponding profile. They require the profile to be supported by your camera. For example, only the X-Pro2 can use the Acros profiles.

Some General Note about Presets

Not all images are suitable for all presets. Some images just wont produce pleasing results and won’t be appropriate for the type of presets you may be trying to use, depending on the subject matter.

It is also important to note that any preset won’t be a magic bullet. Presets should be considered as a starting point. More often than not images may require additional adjustments after applying presets.
