Detailed Breakdown of What’s in Film Candy

This page contains a detailed breakdown of what each preset in the Film Candy for Lightroom set does. This information is also included in the documentation that is included in the download

Film Candy

— Quick Reset

Quickly resets the colour and exposure settings of the develop settings without touching the lens corrections, vignette or grain settings.

— Quick Reset All

Resets everything except the calibration, the process version and lens corrections.

Brittle

A look with crushed blacks and warm brownish tones.

Butter Popcorn

A low contrast faded look with milky tones. Enhances shadows and has a high key response curve.

Candy Floss

A faded look with lowered shadows and a film like curve. Also has grain on by default. Works best with brighter images.

Chocolate Dark

A strong look with a deep blue tint to the shadows and a creamy warm tint to the highlights.

Chocolate Light

A brighter version of the previous preset. Brings up the exposure for a brighter image and the tinting is slightly less than the dar version.

Chocolate Wrapper

A faded look with a cool blueish tint to the image. You may need to adjust the images exposure after applying this preset.

Chocolate Wrapper DR

An alternate version of Chocolate Wrapper with the dynamic range increased by bringing up the shadows and bringing down the highlights. There is a stronger tint to the shadows and highlights but with more pastel like tones.

Chocolate Wrapper Faded

Another alternate version of Chocolate Wrapper, but with a faded low contrast look.

Chocolate Wrapper Faded -1

A variation of the previous preset with the exposure reduced by 1 stop for images that are bright or over exposed.

Coffee Cream

A soft low contrast look with a graduated coffee coloured filter over the top of the frame.

Cookies and Cream

A rich contrasty look inspired by transparency film. It has some subtle tinting of the highlights and shadows.

Cookies and Cream Warmer

A version of Cookies and Cream with a warmer white balance.

Faded Caramel

A soft look with raised blacks and a warm tone.

Fudge

A strong look with a film like responsive curve and with warm brownish tones.

Fudge Cool

A version of Fudge with a cooler white balance for images that are already warm.

Hard Boiled

A neutral high contrast look inspired by the typical “vivid” look of certain transparency film types.

Icing Sugar

A faded neutral look with strong grain.

Lemon Sponge

A contrasty look with a warm yellowish filter

Lemon Sponge EXP

A bright version of Lemon Sponge with decreased exposure for otherwise bright images which might be burned out by the normal version.

Liquorice

A contrasty black and white look with a strong fine grain

Liquorice +

A brighter version of Liquorice with less grain

Marshmallow

A soft look with tinted shadows and highlights and raised blacks. It also has a strong vignette. Works best with warm toned images and you may need to adjust the white balance of your image after applying for best results

Marshmallow Soft Vignette

An alternate version of Marshmallow with a softer more graduated vignette.

Mint Humbug

A high contrast black and white effect that dramatically darkens blues for a rich dramatic effect especially on images with sky or water.

Neapolitan Ice Cream

A look with soft blue tinted shadows and slightly yellowish highlights. Also has a vignette as standard

Peppermint Gum

A low contrast look with a green tint. Useful as a special effect. You may need to tweak the vibrance and saturation controls depending on the image.

Plain Chocolate

A general purpose look inspired by print film. It has a film like responsive curve and some subtle toning of the shadows and highlights. It also raises the blacks slightly.

Plain Chocolate +EXP DR

A variation of Plain Chocolate that increases the exposure and also the dynamic range by increasing the shadows and bringing down the highlights.

Plain Chocolate +EXP

A variation of Plain Chocolate that increases exposure.

Plain Chocolate DR

A variation of Plain Chocolate that increases the dynamic range by increasing the shadows and bringing down the highlights.

Plain Chocolate Warm

A variation of Plain Chocolate with a warmer colour balance.

Praline

A look with faded colours but which still has contrast and also some subtle green tinting in the shadows and some very slight tinting of the highlights.

Praline DR

A version of Praline with increased dynamic range by increasing the shadows and bringing down the highlights.

Rocky Road

A high contrast look with enhanced reds and tinting in the shadows. You may need to adjust the white balance for images that are already warm.

Sherbet

A soft faded look with some subtle green and blue tinting.

Spearmint Gum

A look with muted colours and strong green tinting. This works best on images that are muted to begin with.

Turkish Delight

A rich look with strong tinting. There is some purple tinting in the shadows and pinkish tinting in the highlights. It’s very sensitive to exposure, so you may have to adjust the exposure after applying for best effect.

Vanilla

A rich, neutral look with some cool tones added

Vanilla Ice Cream

A version of Vanilla with stronger contrast

White Chocolate

A neutral look with a film like response curve and raised blacks. Inspired by print film.

White Chocolate DR

Version of white chocolate with increased dynamic range

White Chocolate High Key

A more contrasty version of White Chocolate with a high key response curve

Curve – Blacks – Monochrome

A version of the curve used in some of the presets. When applied this will make the blacks darker and also get rid of the colour tinting

Curve – Darker Blacks

A version of the curve used in some of the presets. This makes the blacks darker but keeps the colour tinting

Double Grad Warm Glow

This applies two Gradient effects which overlap to give the image a warm glow. Can be used to add warmth to an image independently of the white balance controls

Fix Colour Shadow Noise

A quick fix for the colour shadow noise that is present in the dark areas of certain cameras

Fix Colour Shadow Noise Light

A less intense version of the above effect

Grain – Age

Applies a heavy large grain common in older film images

Grain – Fine Heavy

A fine grain but intense

Grain – Fine Sharp

A grain with a small radius

Grain – Fine Sharp Light

A low intensity version of the fine grain preset

Grain – Medium Soft

A medium intensity soft grain

Lens Auto Correct Setup

Turns on lens correction profiles and chromatic aberration correction

ND +Btm -Top Lower 1/3

A Neutral Density Grad effect. Darkens the top of the image and brightens the bottom. Mix point is at the lower third of the image.

ND + Btm -Top Mid

A Neutral Density Grad effect. Darkens the top of the image and brightens the bottom. Mix point is at the centre of the image.

ND Bottom 1/3 -0.5exposure -100Highlight

A Neutral Density Grad effect. Darkens the top two thirds of the image by reducing highlights and also lowering exposure

ND Bottom 1/3 Brighten .5

A neutral density effect. Brightens the bottom third of the image by half a stop

ND BTM 1/3 Highlight -100

A neutral density effect. Darkens the top two thirds of the image by reducing the highlights only.

ND TOP 1/2 Highlight -100

A neutral density effect. Darkens the top half of the image by reducing the highlights only.

ND Top 1/3 Highlight -100

A neutral density effect. Darkens the top third of the image by reducing the highlights only.

Really Shoddy Lens Fix

A preset that turns on the colour fringing reduction options in the chromatic aberration tab of the lens correction section. This is preset to take out strong purple and red fringing that is common on old or cheap lenses

Sharpen +NR

Adds some increased sharpening and also turns on some basic luminance noise reduction

Shoddy Lens Fix

A lighter version of the “Really Shoddy lens fix” preset designed to reduce mild colour fringing

Soft Focus

Reduces sharpening and clarity for a soft focus effect

Soft Glow

Reduces clarity (but keeps sharpness) for a soft glow effect

Super Sharp Aggressive

Strong sharpening settings. Useful for architecture or other regular patterns. Not suitable for use on non-bayer sensor images such as those from a Fuji X-Trans camera.

Super Sharp Basic

Increases sharpening settings slightly. Especially useful for cameras with strong anti-aliasing filters.  Not suitable for use on non-bayer sensor images such as those from a Fuji X-Trans camera.

Super Sharp Medium

A medium intensity version of the above sharpening presets

Top Half Highlights -100 Blue

A blue tinted neutral density effect

Vignette – Square Light

A light vignette with a squarer aspect ration (rather than the standard round vignette)

Vignette – Square Medium

A medium vignette with a squarer aspect ration (rather than the standard round vignette)

Vignette – Square Strong

A strong vignette with a squarer aspect ration (rather than the standard round vignette)

Vignette Off

Turns the vignette off

Zero Sharpen and Grain

Turns sharpening and grain off. Useful if you want to send the image to another piece of software for sharpening
